hoop-earringHoop earrings have been worn since ancient times, and have been found in the graves of the Greeks dating back to around 2000 B.C. They were fashioned from gold, bronze and silver and came in many different sizes.

The hoop earring is circular or semi-circular in design, and is very similar in appearance to a ring. They are often constructed of metal tubing, with a thin wire attachment penetrating the ear. The hollow tubing is permanently attached to the wire at the front of the ear, and slips into the tube at the back. The entire device is held together by tension between the wire and the tube.
